Lower Your Hospital Bill
During my career I have worked in a variety of settings, from pediatrics to the burn unit, to neuro, trauma, cardiac, surgical and medical intensive care units, as well as in the the emergency department. And mostly the patients were grateful for the care they received.
As you might expect when they are lying in the hospital bed, the cost of treatment and the bill isn’t a high priority. Furthermore, more than once family members have told me they wanted everything done for the patient. The cost was not important.
While the family and the patient are happy to be home again, it comes as a surprise when the bill arrives. The therapy the patient received in the hospital worked wonders but they all wonder how a few days in the hospital cost so much?
A simple search online will reveal a lot of stories of bankruptcy and unpaid hospital bills that were sent to collections. And I can’t imagine the anxiousness and worry that most of those folks are going through during this.
Nurses have a long tradition of patient advocacy so in this and other articles we will examine some actual hospital bills. Some of these bills will have errors while others will have overcharges of 400% or more.
Most of the information you need comes from the internet, although it is difficult and time consuming to find it. Once more once you have the information how do you use it? What is better than personal experiences?
Numerous examples are included as errors and examples are given. You can even decide if the errors and overcharges found are represent fraud.
